Sony PlayStation Stars: Points will expire and earning system will change

Ana sayfa / News

Sony has announced major changes to its PlayStation Stars membership program that will come into effect in October 2024 and March 2025. The changes have sparked widespread debate among gamers. PlayStation Stars is known as a loyalty program where players earn points by playing PlayStation games or purchasing products from the PlayStation Store. However, the new announcements will bring significant changes to how the program works. Here are the details…

Starting October 24, 2024, players will have a 12-month validity period for points earned in the PlayStation Stars program. This means that points will expire one year after they are earned, while existing points will be valid for 24 months from the date they are earned. This means players will need to use their points more quickly, making it harder to plan for long-term savings.

Another major change will come into effect on March 1, 2025. After that date, subscription payments or renewals made through the PlayStation Store will no longer earn points . Previously, users who paid for PlayStation Plus or other subscription services could earn points for these transactions. However, this new rule completely eliminates points from subscriptions.

These changes have been met with backlash among gamers, especially on platforms like Reddit, with many users saying the changes reduce the appeal of the PlayStation Stars program and could negatively impact player loyalty. There are concerns that Sony’s move could limit the benefits players get from the program.

Sony has stated that players will be able to cancel their Stars membership if they do not accept these new terms , but it remains to be seen how these changes will affect the program’s popularity in the long run.
